 Our 2014-2015 Season Continues…

PETER AND THE WOLF AND MORE!Peter and the Wolf Artwork

Composed as a symphony in 1936 to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra, PETER AND THE WOLF springs to life as an irresistible children’s ballet.  Peter and his animal friends strike out for a day of adventure, complete with spirited narration.  PETER AND THE WOLF is sure to charm and entertain patrons of all ages.

The program includes a classic grand pas de deux, the story of DIANA AND ACTAEON.  Tragically Greek and powerful, this is one of the most exciting grand pas in ballet repertoire.

Two of MBT’s own debut original choreography – Anastasia Welsh presents EN PASSANT, a classical ballet with hints of contemporary, danced to the music of Mozart.  Will Smith debuts his new work 4 THEMES, featuring segments of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Each of the program’s pieces will be accompanied by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra.

Manassas Ballet Theatre presents GISELLE, the classic, romantic ballet that speaks to the power of true love. It tells the tale of the peasant girl Giselle who dies of a broken heart after she discovers the one she loves belongs to another. In the end, her love for the heartbreaker saves him from a horrible fate at the hands of the Wilis, ghosts of jilted girls known to dance the untrue to death. Giselle, with its colorful act one village scene and wistful, romantic act two, is the oldest ballet in active repertoire, remaining a worldwide favorite since the choreography originated in the 1841. MBT will be accompanied live by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra.
